Overview

MissingLight is a tiny app that turns on the BlackBerry's
status LED if you miss a call. A BlackBerry uses the status LED for
many notifications: incoming call, voice mail, SMS, email etc.
Unfortunately, the ability to indicate a missed call is curiously
missing from my particular model (BlackBerry Curve 8320 from
T-Mobile). MissingLight is my attempt to fill in this missing
functionality for the status LED, hence its name.

Installation
To use, just install the app. It will autostart and install itself. There are no configuration screens. In fact, there are no screens or icons at all. This application might request access to your phone log when you first install it: don't worry, it only uses your phone log to detect missed calls. If you miss a call, MissingLight will make your status LED blink purple.
When you install or upgrade MissingLight, it is possible that it may not work immediately. If you have this problem, try rebooting your BlackBerry (do a battery pull).
Versions
- Version 1.1 revamps the notification mechanism so MissingLight can coexist better with other LED users. The main benefit is that MissingLight no longer deactivates the coverage indicator (green light). I also reduced the brightness of the LED in response to user complaints
- Version 1.1.1 fixes a problem introduced in version 1.1 where the LED will not turn off once activated.
Known issues
People have reported a number of issues that may or may not affect you. I hope to investigate and possibly address these issues in a future release of MissingLight.
- Conflict with other notifications. Because there is only one such LED, only one notification "wins". Version 1.1 should fix the conflict with the coverage indicator (green light). However, it is still possible for other apps' usage of notifications to conflict.
- LED brightness. Some of you remarked that it's too bright for your taste. I think this calls for a configuration option. Version 1.1 reduced the brightness.
- Light not blinking. Some Storm users report that the LED lights up but does not blink. The BlackBerry LED API seems to work very differently on different devices.
